Conference announcement and call for papers

Date: 9-10 May 2019 (Arrival of the participants on May 8, 2019 and departure on May 11, 2019).

Submissions are cordially invited for the conference "Law and Artificial Intelligence", an international scholarly conference devoted to the problems posted by modern technology. Junior scholars are particularly encouraged to participate.

The presentation proposals should include the name and contact information of the presenter and an abstract of the presentation (500 words maximum).

The proposed themes or panels are:

  • Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Legal Professions
  • Law and Science Fiction Literature: Constructing Real Dystopias?
  • Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights (Privacy, Surveillance, Profiling of Citizens, etc.)
  • Regulation of Artificial Intelligence
  • Civil and Criminal Liability of Artificial Intelligence: should new rules be introduced?
  • Emerging Persons/Entities: Can Artificial Intelligence have legal capacity?
  • Artificial intelligence as the object of intellectual property law and/or patent law (the legal value of the Turing-test)
  • Artificial Intelligence and Property Law -- who is the owner of an Artificial Intelligence made by another Artificial Intelligence?
  • Artificial Intelligence and Criminal Law Enforcement
  • Artificial Intelligence and Contract Law
  • Artificial Intelligence as Alternative Dispute Resolution method
  • Other issues in connection with the main theme of the conference

Submissions: The deadline to send the presentation proposal, including the panel in which the author wants to participate and the abstract: December 3, 2018. Submissions should be sent to Vanda Csíki, e-mail: csikivanda@kv.sapientia.ro, with the subject line: AI CONFERENCE.

All submissions will be reviewed by the organizers of the conference.

Notification on the acceptance of papers: December 14, 2018.

The chosen papers will be presented during plenary and panel sessions with presentation time being (strictly) limited to 20 minutes. There will be short discussion time guaranteed in each concurrent workshop session.

For presenters of accepted papers the organizers will provide full accommodation (except travel expenses).

Submission of the final paper for the conference publication: July 15, 2018. A selection of papers will be published in collaboration with a leading international publishing house.
