TEAM SAPIENTIA in the finals of the National Moot Court Competition in Media Law – 2 nd edition

Budapest, March 7, 2025

The Team of Sapientia has reached the finals of the National Moot Court Competition in Media Law, organized on the 7 th of March in Budapest by the Faculties of Law of „Eötvös Loránd” University and of „Pázmány Péter” University. The second edition of the competition has presented multiple novelties as opposed to the first edition in 2023 and has confronted students with a higher level of complexity: the competition case had to be argued by variant A at group stage (two matches for each team, first as applicants then as respondents), then by variant B at playoff stage and by variant C in the semifinals and the finals.

The competition case implied knowledge of legal doctrine and case law in the field of freedom of expression and its limits, media law, online platform regulation and personality rights, variant C having also a mandatory component of civil law. Teams not qualifying for the playoff stages continued the competition in the Media quiz section, while the rest of the teams advanced to the playoff rounds.

27 teams have competed in 2025 – having played a total of 6 matches and presenting a solid performance in the finals, the team of Sapientia has concluded the competition in 2 nd place (Best Team Runner-up 2025).

The team of Sapientia University comprised 2 undergraduate law students: Hunor Veres-Kupán (4 th year) and Andrea Orosz (2 nd year), coached by Dr. Zsolt Kokoly, also benefitting from the assistance of Dr. János Székely.
